Marine Geology & Geophysics (M.S. and Ph.D.)
Researches are carried out to determine the characteristics of the sea floor and meters below the sea floor (‘mbsf’). Morphological structure, nature, thickness, and geochemical structure and distribution of the rocks and sediments forming the seafloor and ‘mbsf’ are determined by various methods and tools. At METU-IMS deep-sea research has been carried out in four interconnected programs; i) deep-sea chemosynthetic ecosystems, ii) seafloor characterization and habitat mapping, iii) marine chemical sensors iv) sediment geochemistry and geomicrobiology.
