Temperature Constant Room
Graduate program of Marine Biology & Fisheries of the Institute is running a Constant Temperature Room having an area about 9 square metres where phytoplankton cultures are maintained. The temperature of this room is kept constant near to the seawater temperatures and can be changed according to the purposes of the experiments, which will be performed. There are illuminated shelves with fluorescence lamps in it and the light intensity can also be adjusted to the required levels. Phytoplankton cultures are kept within F/2 medium for their nutrient requirements. Experimental zooplankton studies are also carried out in this room.
The phytoplankton species cultured in this room are:
Chrysophyta
Diatomeae
Melosira moniliformis
Asterionella japonica
