Working Group of Marine Atmospheric Science

Group is relatively new and small with major interest of atmospheric aerosols within the Eastern Mediterranean, its sources and regional distributions and impacts on the oceanography of the region. Main fields of activities are following:

1) To determine the chemical characteristic of the aerosol, to determine the relative contributions from the major aerosol types (e.g. sulphates, mineral dust) to the total aerosol concentration, to assess the dominant source regions and transport pathways for these aerosol types and to examine how all these parameters vary with time of the year or season.

2) To determine the relative importance of the anthropogenic and natural aerosols with regard to the overall characteristics of the aerosol.
