After B.Sc and M.Sc from Department of Physics, Middle East Technical University (METU, Turkey), and Ph.D from Department of Meteorology, University of Reading (UK), Dr. Oguz joined Institute of Marine Sciences as an Assistant Professor in 1981. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986 and full Professor in 1992 in the same institution. He spent a year (from June 1993 to July 1994) as a visiting scientist in MIT, Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, Cambridge MA (USA), and a total of three months every year during the following years using financial supports by ONR (1995-1996) and NSF (1996-1999; 1999-2002) in collaboration with Profs. Paola Malanotte-Rizzoli (MIT) and Hugh W. Ducklow (VIMS).
Current Research Interests
1) Black Sea circulation dynamics,
2) Black Sea ecosystem dynamics and modeling vertical biogeochemical pump,
3) Long-term reorganization of the Black Sea ecosystem and Regime shift events,
4) Climatic regulation of the Black Sea at interannual-to-decadal time scale,
5) Observations and modeling of the Emiliania huxleyi blooms in the Black Sea,
6) Internal hydraulic adjustments of the Bosphorus two layer exchange flow,
